Assistant Baker Position
 

Altitude Hospitality Group is looking for a talented, ambitious assistant baker to join our culinary team as we expand our inter-company bakery operations and open a new bakery in Downtown Colorado Springs! This position will be part time to start with the potential to become full time as the new bakery opens. 

Job Overview

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Works with the Head Baker to produce diversified menu items and learn all aspects of working in a bakery.

Experience & Skills

 

1-2 years experience is preferred but not necessary. 

Basic baking knowledge (knife use, scaling, mixing methods, bread shaping, following recipes and math skills)

Must have a flexible schedule and the ability to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays based on business demands.

A working knowledge of the practices and procedures of safe food handling.

SERV-SAFE certified is preferred but not necessary 

Friendly demeanor and positive attitude.

Ability to work in a team setting and fast pace environments.

Excellent communication skills.

Passionate about culinary arts.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

Performs a variety of baking duties and assists with the preparation of breads, rolls, laminated doughs (ie. Croissant, Danish, etc.), quick breads, etc.

 

Ensures compliance with all recipes to provide consistent menu items. 

 

Clean and maintain work area throughout shift.

 

Make sure that the hygiene and food safety standards are met in all stages of food preparation, starting with the ingredients and ending with the finished dish which leaves the kitchen. 

 

Make sure that all equipment is maintained and in proper working order. 

 

Prepares adequate quantities for business volume. Tests product for quality standards.

 

Maintains professionalism and is friendly and approachable towards guests and staff.

 

Reports safety hazards to manager on duty. Reports all employee accidents to manager on duty.

 

Maintain sense of urgency in kitchen. 

 

Complete all other duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

COMMUNICATION SKILLS 

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees to positively represent Altitude Hospitality Group.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS 

Ability to apply basic arithmetic to common food service applications: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.

REASONING ABILITY 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to be adaptable to sudden changes in production plans, scheduling, and resource allocation, and adept at service recovery.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job functions are performed primarily in a clean, ventilated, well-lighted temperature controlled environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions; cold and hot. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Hours and Availability 

Typical workweek: 20-30 hours a week, with the potential to become full time in the future.

Flexible scheduling and availability is ideal. Early morning or overnight shifts may be required based on work load.

Weekend availability is a must.

*May be more hours during high event seasons.

 

Hours vary depending on business demand.

This position is part time, with the potential to eventually become a full time position. Once full time, employees will be offered insurance including medical, dental, vision and a free life insurance policy.

This position starts at $15-$18/hr, based on experience.
